The Frysian poet and ship doctor Jan Jacob Slauerhoff wrote down probably the most expedient statement about life & art : only in my poems I can live *.
It's a beautiful motto to express the magical power of art that makes us reconcile with the world, if only for a brief moment.
Now in the gallery:
GUBBELS 80. In the gallery we present a broad selection of paintings, printings and objects. In celebration of his 80th birthday we show various kettles, tables, chairs and some from his early start to the present.

Dit Eiland - Location
Guest residence Dit Eiland is lodged in a restored 18th century building right opposite the monumental Hollummer church. The village is situated at the most western part of Ameland encircled by a chain of beautiful scenery. It's the perfect place to get acquainted with the World Heritage Site Wadden Sea.
One of Hollum's oldest orchards gels into a stylised garden. We love the contrast between areas with intensive maintenance, trimmed hedges, mowed lawns and bushy wild domains where we dont even touch a leaf. In fact Dit Eiland is one big ecological sanctuary.
The western coastal area streches from the muddy wadden flats with rich breeding colonies (Vogelpolle) in the South to the vast sandy beaches in the North.
This part of the island is truly a moving place in all weathers and tides. As if you find yourself in another time.
Hollum is characterized by its commander houses and green lanes, like the Burenlaan and Oosterlaan. Many remains from the days of whaling gives the village its special atmosphere.
You can find a variety of restaurants, shops and historic sites on walkimg distance.
